Eloise Stallard

September 19, 1929 — August 23, 2018

Eloise McGee Stallard, 88, joined the Lord in Heaven on August 23, 2018, following a lengthy period of declining health after a stroke.
Eloise was born in and was a lifelong resident of Gate City, Virginia, where she had many friends and was loved by all who knew her. Eloise loved Gate City, and especially the Blue Devils of Gate City High School, whom she followed closely all of her life. One of the many other things Eloise enjoyed was cooking for friends and family, and her blackberry cake was legendary in various parts of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
Eloise was a lifelong Baptist and was a founding member of Daniel Boone Baptist Church in the Daniel Boone community near Gate City. Eloise’s husband, R.D. Stallard, pastored Daniel Boone Baptist Church for more than 50 years, with Eloise’s unfailing support and assistance. Eloise was an active member of many church and community organizations over the years, including serving as director of the Daniel Boone Woman’s Sunday School Class for many years, the Daniel Boone Ruritan Club, Scott County Extension, and several Veterans’ organizations, of which she was especially fond due to her brother, Wesley F. McGee, Jr., who was seriously wounded in World War II and remained bedridden until his death.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley F. McGee and Nannie P. McGee, and two brothers, Wesley F. McGee, Jr. and Eugene F. McGhee.
Eloise is survived by her husband, R.D. Stallard, of Gate City; her daughter and light of her life, Belinda Stallard Range, and her husband Ronnie, Of Kingsport; and by her three grandchildren, whom she helped care for daily during their childhood, Trey Range and his wife Karissa, of Gray; Ryan Range, and Rachel Range, of Kingsport. Eloise is also survived by her brother Eugene’s family, with whom she was always very close, including her sister in law, Katherine McGhee, and her nephew and nieces, Gary McGhee, Sherry McGhee Tolliver, Annette McGhee Carrico, Patty McGhee Johnson, and Jill McGhee Moody. Eloise leaves behind special friends Beatrice “Bill” Rogers, Elizabeth Stokes, and Helen McDavid, all of Gate City.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating. Music will be provided by Stanley Rogers, Janice Wolfe Sharpe, and Autumn Brown.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Trey Range, Ryan Range, Jim Berry, J.L. Rhoton, Larry Bartlett, and Ronnie Roller will serve as pallbearers. Mickey Rogers, Phillip Rogers, and Gary McGhee will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and Friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

The Stallard family would like to thank all of Eloise’s caregivers and the administrators and support staff of the Wexford House and Amedisys Hospice in Kingsport for their caring support and kindness during Eloise’s stay there.
