Mark Orbin Sloan, 59, Kingsport, TN, died unexpectedly at his residence, Saturday, September 14, 2019.
He was born March 27,1960 in Kingsport, TN, the son of the late O.H. & Elvia Hood Sloan,
Mark graduated from Rye Cove High School in 1978, B.S. Charter Oak State College-Education, M.S. Grand Canyon University-Marriage & Family Counseling, PH.D. Grand Canyon University-Psychology-Special Needs, PH.D. Nova Southeastern University-Psychologist- Clinical Psychiatry, He worked as a Case Manager- Holston Mental Health/Frontier Health 1988-2006, Scott County Public Schools-Special Education Teacher, Kingsport City Schools and Sullivan South High School-Special Needs Teacher.
Mark played football on championship teams at Fairview Elementary & Rye Cove High School along with his twin brother Martin. He also coached at Fairview & Rye Cove and instrumental in organizing the Southwest Virginia All-Star Football, Mark was an avid fan of the U.T. Volunteer Football.
He was predeceased in death by his parents.
Surviving are his brothers, Lester (Karen) Sloan of Duffield, VA and Martin Sloan, Gate City, VA. Nephews, Jeffrey Sloan and Stephen (Barbara) Duffield, VA. Great Nieces, Makala (Josh) Walters, Church Hill, TN and Mackenzie (Austin) Bowen, Gate City, VA, Nephew, Isaiah Sloan, Duffield, VA, Great-Great Nephews Andrew Walters and Ace Bowen. Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a host of friends. The family will receive friends at the residence of his brother, Lester Sloan, Duffield, VA and at Marks residence at 916 Quillen Street, Kingsport Tn, Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday, September 19,2019. Funerals Services will be at 8 Pm in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home, conducted by Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Brother Jimmy Combs. Music will be provided by The Oak Glen Singers.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside.
Pallbearers will be Randy Holland, Jeff Wampler, Boyd Fannon, Norman Sloan, Stephen Sloan, Jeffrey Sloan, Josh Walters, Isaiah Sloan, Austin Bowen. Honorary Pallbearer will be Denny Sloan.
