Bonnie Hillman Salling, 78, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Friday, August 9, 2019 at her residence.
She was born in Scott County, VA on November 14, 1940 and was the daughter of the late James Ketron and Bonnie Corder Hillman.
In addition to her parents, her grandmother, “Mom” Kate Hillman and grandfather, “Dad” W.J. Hillman; sisters, Beulah Stewart, Shirley Cassel; brothers, Charles, Bill, John, Lee, Mont, Edgar Hillman, J.B. Quillen and Earl Cassel preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Billy C. Salling, of the home; daughters, Catherine and Harold Hall, Wilma Jean and Greg Newland, Ft. Blackmore, VA; son, James and Sandy Salling, Duffield, VA; sister, Irma Quillen, Kingsport, TN; brothers, Darius and Barbara Hillman, Dungannon, VA, Allen and Mary Hillman, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Paige and Steven Keller, Jeremy and Jamie Hall; great grandchildren, Maci, Mason, Hayden and Colin; a very special niece, Diane Mitchell; very special friends, Patty Summey, Carol Hill, Berniece Arrington; along with a host of other nieces and nephews, friends and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Wood Riverview Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Cassell and Pastor Earnest Mitchell officiating. The Quillen Family and Buford Salling will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service at the Salling-Grizzle Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Jeremy Hall, Steven Keller, Mark Barnette, Scotty Hill, David Mann, Larry Cruby and Sammy Cruby will serve as pallbearers. John Class III, Phillip Mann, Bradley Hillman, Conley Hillman, Danny Hillman and Lewis Roop will serve as honorary pallbearers. .
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Dr. Paul Kramer and staff, nursing staff at the Regional Cancer Center, and Ballad Hospice.
