Russell Isaac McMurray, 86, Hiltons, VA passed away, Sunday, May 18, 2025, at NOVA Health and Rehab, Weber City, VA.

Russell was born in Scott County, VA on October 10, 1938, and was the son of the late William Harley and Odie Laura (Godsey) McMurray.

He and his late wife, Margaret Ann were members of Gardner’s Chapel Baptist Church and attended Old Chestnut Primitive Baptist Church. They were always together until her death in 2024.

In addition to his parents, and his wife, Margaret Ann (Fields) McMurray, his brothers, Douglas McMurray and William “Junior” Harley McMurray, Jr., sister-in-law, Brenda Molher, and stepdaughter, Peggy Grigsby preceded him in death.

Russell is survived by his daughters, Judy Duncan, Hiltons, VA, Connie Lindley, Greenwood, SC, Angie (Todd) Sumner, Kingsport, TN, stepdaughters, Ann (Don) Grizzle, Bristol, VA, Kay (Tony) Trejo, Gate City, VA, Teena (Sammy) Creger, Saltville, VA, sons, Noah (Lori) McMurray, Fall Branch, TN, and Ronald (Michelle) McMurray, Fall Branch, TN, stepson, Rocky Grigsby, Waverly, VA, 12 grandchildren, numerous great, and stepgreat grandchildren, and numerous great great and stepgreat great grandchildren, brother, Donnie McMurray, Hiltons, VA, sisters, Betty (Phillip) McNutt, Kingsport, TN, Peggy Robinson, Kingsport, TN, and Reba Muriel Matthews, Blountville, TN, special sister-in-law, Opal McMurray, Church Hill, TN, special friend, Vanessa Pratt, and his beloved furbaby, Shag.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at the Old Chestnut Flat Primitive Baptist Church, Hiltons, VA at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2025, with Rev. Rex McMurray and Rev. Bob Simpson officiating. Daniel McMurray, and Irene Robbins, Lois Gray and friends will provide the music.

The burial will follow at the Godsey Cemetery, Hiltons, VA.

Scotty McMurray, Terry McMurray, Mike McMurray, Daniel McMurray, Ronnie Matthews, and Hunter Begley will serve as pallbearers.
