Rev. Ernest Dean Mitchell, 74, Dungannon, VA passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Ernest was born in Abingdon, VA on August 8, 1951, and was the son of the late Frank Junior Stiles Mitchell and Winnie Mae Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Truman and William Mitchell preceded him in death.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Diane Mitchell, children, Benjamin Mithell. Sr. and wife, Jill, Jeff Mitchell and wife, Amanda, and Andrea Righter and husband, Nelson, grandchildren, Abigail Weeks and husband, Jordon, Gabrielle Ribiero and husband, Gustavo, Madelynn Mitchell, Benjamin (2.0) Mitchell, Evelyn (BooBoo) Mitchell, Lilly (Miss Sass) Mitchell, Will (Chief) Righter, and Alex (Sabu) Righter, an expectant great granddaughter, Amelia Weeks, sisters, Patsy Leadingham, Kathy Lindsay, and Deborah Pembelton, brothers, Edward Mitchell and wife, Elane and Wayne Mitchell, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home from 5-6 p.m. Services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, A eulogy will be given by his son, Benjamin Mitchell, Sr. His son, Rev. Jeff Mitchell, will deliver the message. The Cassells Chapel Saints will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.,Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Mountain View Church Cemetery.
Sam Brickey, Mike Corder, Tony Corder, Tom Jordan, Ben Mitchell, II, Nelson Righter, and Will Righter will serve as pallbearers. Thomas Rose, George Hensley, Phillip Mann, Ray Castle, and Bobby Salyer will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the Mountain View Church Cemetery, 20241 Green Springs Road, Abingdon, VA at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday for the Graveside Service.
