Ray Fields, Jr. – Gate City, VA

Ray Fields, Jr., 70, of Gate City, VA, passed away on July 10, 2024, at Franklin Woods Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on July 20, 1953, and was the son of the late Ray (Sr.) and Inez Rogers Fields. Ray was previously a member of the Virginia National Guard, worked at Birmingham Bolt, and managed multiple car dealerships. He loved cars, car racing, and playing card games. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by multiple special cousins and friends.

He is survived by his children, Michael Fields (fiancée Sharon Ledford), Gwen Fields Quillen (Craig), Jessica Fields Jessee (Nathan), and Amber Fields Bellamy; grandchildren Luke Fields, Ethan Quillen, Hank Fields, Isaiah Jessee, Noah Jessee, Anna Quillen, and Kyra Bellamy; step-children, Daniel and Rachel Osborne; mothers of his children and step-children, Judy Calton, Renea Fields, and Robin Osborne Crowe; several special cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. A short service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 pm, with a burial following at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA at approximately 1:30 pm. 

Michael Fields, Craig Quillen, Nathan Jessee, Luke Fields, Ethan Quillen, Hank Fields, and Isaiah Jessee will serve as pallbearers. Danny Cooper, Claude Hall, Jerry Broadwater, Fred Rhodes, Bruce Vaughn, and Daniel Osborne will serve as honorary pallbearers, along with all of his special friends.

The family would like to thank his special friend, Judy Calton, for caring for him and providing comfort during his last days. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff and Dr. Martin at Franklin Woods Community Hospital for the care and support of the family.
