Ramona S Miller

June 26, 1941 — October 15, 2024

Ramona Miller, 83, died on October 15, 2024.

She was born on June 26, 1941, daughter of Nell and J. Fred Miller.

In addition to her mother and father, Ramona was predeceased by her brother Raymond Miller, sister-in-law Sandie Miller, and nephew Stacy Miller.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kara and Michael Bestler, grandchildren Wade, Abigail (Elijah), and Caroline, son and daughter-in-law Bart and Logan Valley, grandchildren Selah and Lyman, nephew Shane Miller, and cousin Zane Burge.

Ramona spent her childhood days in Clinchport and Gate City, Virginia. After graduating from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV), she embarked on a long and fulfilling nursing career, working as an RN in various medical settings in Richmond and Martinsville, Virginia, and Sarasota, Florida. Later in her career she enjoyed many years as an occupational health nurse at Nabisco Bakery in Richmond. She also served as a volunteer in various capacities through the years, notably through her retirement in Concord, North Carolina.

Ramona was always interested in learning and trying new things. Her curiosity would find her at various times through life a marching band bass drummer, a painter and sculptor, a lunchroom helper, a pianist, a Halloween enthusiast, a coastal explorer, and a student of languages. She also loved Monument Avenue Easter parades, an occasional Pal’s chili bun, and a good Saturday morning yard sale.

Ramona was a loved and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Most of all, she was a helper, often to those most in need. Ramona made countless lives better with her time, grace, and care.

Thank you to the family at St. Andrews Living Center in Concord, North Carolina for their loving help over the past year.

Contributions may be made in Ramona’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Humane Society, or to the charity of your choice.
