Walter Lee Porter -84, Gate City, VA, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019 at NOVA Health and Rehab, Weber City, VA.
Walter was born in Russell County, VA on April 6, 1935 to the late Ernest and Sallie Kate Porter.
In addition to his parents; his brother, Cecil Porter preceded him in death.
Walter was a graduate of Lees McRae College and a veteran of the United States Army Reserve 639th Transportation Co. He also served in the Berlin Crisis 1961-1962. He was a mail carrier for 32 years in Kingsport, TN and was a member of the Holston View United Methodist Church, Weber City, VA.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Porter, of 57 years; son, Terry Porter; sister, Anna Ruth Baskette; sister-in-law, Sharon and husband, Darrell Duncan; brother-in-law, Jim King; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Don Hanshew officiating.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
