Duffield, VA ? Callie Gray Miller, 97, departed this life, Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center, Church Hill, TN following a long period of declining health.

Mrs. Miller was born in Index, Kentucky on August 30, 1911, the daughter of the late Charlie Patton and Rebecca Risner Patton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, H.W. Gray, son, James Lynn "Jim" Gray, her second husband, Luther Miller and sisters, Cassie Patton, Hazel Hooper and Golden Ferland.

Callie and her first husband, H.W. Gray were the owners and operators of H.W. Gray Service Station at Speers Ferry, VA for many years. She was a member of Kaylors Chapel Baptist Church and most recently attended Community Fellowship Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Betty Jean Salling and husband, Rex, Duffield, VA, sons, Charles H. Gray, Cheraw, SC, Ronald W. Gray and wife, Vickie, Gray, TN, daughter-in-law, Carole Gray, TN, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one step grandchild, one great great grandchild, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. John Sheppard officiating. Judy McConnell will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends will be meeting at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service. Ronnie Hammonds will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center for their wonderful care, where Callie was a resident for the better part of the last five years, and to Caris Health Care.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community Fellowship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1407, Gate City, VA 24251, the activities department of Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center, 701 West Main Blvd., Church Hill, TN 37642, or the charity of one's choice.
