Mary Sluss – Nickelsville, VA
Mary Helen (Dean) Sluss, 87, Nickelsville, VA passed away peacefully Saturday, April 18, 2026, at her home.
Mary was born in Scott County, VA on July 14, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Elmer Vernon and Nannie Kate Dean.
She lived a long and happy life and enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Mack Sluss (April 22, 2018), her infant son, Sammy Glen Sluss, grandson, Clinton Sluss, daughter-in-law, Sharon Sluss, sister, Lucille McMurray, and brothers, Charlie Dean, Doyle Dean, Doug Dean, and James Junior Dean preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Kathleen (Danny) Rose, Rosedale, VA, sons, Kenneth Sluss, Nickelsville, VA, and Roger (Brenda) Sluss, Nickelsville, VA, grandchildren, Daniel Sluss and friend Angel Lucas, Crystal (Gavin) Meade, Wesley Sluss and friend Natasha Culbertson, Nathan (Natasha) Sluss, step-granddaughter, Whitney (Shade) Ray, 13 great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, sister, Christine Saul, Jonesbrough, TN, brother, Ronnie (Wilma) Dean, Nickelsville, VA, sisters-in-law, Judy Dean and Sherry Dean, Nickelsville VA, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, also her fur baby Patch.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Brittany Tomlinson will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Ben Sluss Memorial Cemetery, Twin Springs Road, Dungannon, VA.
Bob Hall, Jimmy Sergent, David Dean, Jordan Dean, Sidney Dean, and Wendell White will serve as pallbearers. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
