Luther Hiram Minor, Sr.- Duffield, VA

Luther Hiram Minor, Sr., 84, Duffield, VA, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Holston Valley Medical Center. 

Luther was born in Wise County, VA, on March 21, 1940, to the late Hiram M. Minor, and Bessie L. (Blevins) Minor.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Luther was good man, a loving husband, and the best Dad and friend, but the day he accepted Jesus into his life and heart, he became an even better man.

He was also a 50+ year P.G.A. Golf Professional.

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Lula (Joe) Kozakowski, Madeline (Elmo) Bush, Frances (Cliff) Riggs, Janice (Rackel) Terry; and brothers, Elmer Miner (Helen), Dewey Miner (Janet), and Merrill Miner (Ruth) preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Leona (Payne) Minor, Duffield, VA; daughters, Angela Minor Trice (Mark), Atlanta, GA, Anita Jayne Minor, Kingsport, TN; son, Luther Hiram Minor, Jr., “Luke” (Jill), Barbourville, KY; brothers, Kyle Minor, Blountville, TN, Harlis Minor (Ellen), Hazard KY, and Fred Minor (Angie), Bluff City, TN; grandchildren, Meredithe Minor Bishop, Weber City, VA, Paige (Thomas) Laney, Phoenix, AZ, Samantha Minor Smith, Big Stone Gap, VA, Brandon Minor Trice, Atlanta, GA, and Olivia Ellison Minor, Lexington, KY; great-grandchildren, Roark and Rowan Bishop, Lilly Trice, Easton and Carolina Laney, Willa Smith; his little Yorkie, Scooby; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends. 

The family will receive friends from 4-7p.m., on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Garry Hood officiating. The Hood Family will provide the music. 

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond, Post #3, Kingsport, TN, Post #265, Gate City, VA, National Guard Honors Team. 

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15p.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Brothers and brothers-in-law will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Parkinsons Foundation.
