Ruby Pearl Smith Lawson, 83, Gate City, VA went to Heaven to be with her Lord, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at her residence.
Ruby was born in Scott County, VA on January 16, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Davy Crockett and Myrtle Salyers Smith.
In addition to her parents, her husband, John M. “Jip” Lawson, Jr.; son, John David Lawson, two brothers, David Donald and Earnest “Pete” Smith preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Denise Lawson Duncan and husband, Delmar, Hiltons, VA, Kendra Lawson Taylor and husband, Bo, Gate City, VA, Vodessa Lawson, Gate City, VA; Grandsons, Sgt. Johnathan A. Greene, USMC and Jacob Anson Taylor, Gate City, VA; sisters, Dorothy Blackburn and husband, Glen, South Williamson, KY, Mildred Runyon, KY, Flora Hall, Nickelsville, VA; brother, Jarrett Smith, Nickelsville, VA; uncle, Lody Bob Salyers, Coeburn, VA; aunt, Alma Varney, Belfry, KY; along with a host of cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at her residence. An Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Lelbert Thornburg and Pastor Roy Lane officiating. Eulogy will be given by son-in-law, Bo Taylor. Gethsemane singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Jimmy Dougherty, J.R. Dougherty, Timmy Dougherty, Ronnie Salyers, Jackie Salyers and Elmer Salyers will serve as pallbearers. Lowell Lawson, Roy McClellan, Earl Osborne, Billy Joe Dean, Mike Nickels, Mike Bowen and Joe Allan Anderson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your prayers and all who called, brought food and showed love throughout her sickness; also a special thank you to Wellmont Hospice for their care of Ruby.
