Garney Ray Lawson, 82 formerly of Gate City, VA, passed away on Friday January 18, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of Rogersville, TN.
Garney was born in Scott County, VA on July 17, 1936 to the late Robert Lee and Rettie Lee (Barnette) Lawson. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Joshua Berry, sister, Sylvia, brothers McKinley, John, Elmo, and James.
Garney served his country for 4 years in the United States Army. During this time, he was assigned to the 588th Engineering Battalion. He was also a dedicated worker. After he retired from A&L Industrial, he went to work at Food City. He also enjoyed gardening and front porch sitting.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy Marie Lawson; daughters, Lisa (Nelson) Elam, Teresa (Wayne) McNew, Tammy (Richie) Frazier, and Lorrie Lawson; sons, Bobby Joe and Gary Ray Lawson; sister, Jane Camp; brother, Cecil (Faye) Lawson; grandchildren, Chelsea (Brandon) Weir, Kayela Lawson, Emily Lawson, Garrett (Samantha) Calton, Sarah Calton, Summer (Mark) Reed, Kellie Frazier, Alisha Frazier, Kristen Frazier, Nathaniel McNew, Rachel (Chris) Bartley, Becky McNew, Samantha (Matt) Stallard, Aaron Berry, and Christie (Darby) George; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Gate City Funeral Home from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m. A memorial service will be conducted in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel following the visitation.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations could be made to Gate City Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
It was Garney’s request to be cremated.
