Dorothy M. Lawson, 78, Gate City, VA, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield, VA.
Dorothy was born in Scott County, VA on September 29, 1941 to the late Walter Edwin and Lona Cleo (Strong) Fields. She was a caregiver to many throughout her life and was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Garney Ray Lawson; her grandson, Josh Berry; brother, Gene Fields and her sisters, Katherine Ball, Willie Ruth Gillenwater, Shirley Monroe and Lorraine Hammonds preceded her in death.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lisa (Nelson) Elam, Teresa (Wayne) McNew, Tammy (Richie) Frazier, and Lorrie Lawson; sons, Bobby Joe and Gary Ray Lawson; brothers; Claude Fields, and Paul Fields; grandchildren, Chelsea (Brandon) Weir, Kayela Lawson, Emily Lawson, Garrett (Samantha) Calton, Sarah Calton, Summer (Mark) Reed, Kellie (Chirs) Womack, Alisha (Chris) Amburgey, Kristen Frazier, Nathaniel McNew, Rachel (Chris) Bartley, Becky McNew, Samantha (Matt) Stallard, Aaron Berry, and Christie (Darby) George; 31 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Gate City Funeral Home from 12:00p.m.-2:00p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Mike Elam officiating.
Burial will follow the service, Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
