Larry Wayne Sons

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”.
Larry Sons went home to be with the Lord, his family, and loved ones on February 24, 2026. He was born on June 9, 1959, and was the son of the late Woodrow & Willie Ethal Sons.
He grew up in the Fairview community. He was a graduate from Rye Cove High School.
Survivors are Michelle F. Sons, mother to his children and whom he had spent 40+ years with. Daughters; Kristal Russell (Deshea), Alisha Sons (Zach); Son; Logan Sons; grandchildren Destiny Lamb, Kaylee Lamb, Nevaeh Lamb, Addison Sons, Lucas Sons, Dani Neal; sister Bernice “Sis” Fields (Jack); a very special family, Jr., Harley, Colten, and Kelley Starnes, along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and all his friends at Duffield Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
Larry was a lifetime member at Duffield Volunteer Fire & Rescue. He had Firefighter 2 and his EMT-B, along with several other certificates. He served the community with honor and valor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand at a moment’s notice. dLarry retired from Friendship Ambulance Service where he worked for many years.
The family will receive friends & family Friday, February 27, 2026, from 5-7pm, at Gate City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Fain Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Scott Jerrell officiating. Pam Maness and Betty Joe Wells will provide the music.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15p.m., to go in procession to the graveside service. Members of Duffield Volunteer Fire & Rescue will serve as pallbearers and Honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gate City Funeral Home to aid in funeral expenses.
