Red Lark ? Gate City, VA Lester Edward "Red" Lark, 79, Gate City, VA went to be with Jesus at his residence, Thursday, July 24, 2008 after a lengthy illness, due to complications with diabetes.

Red was born December 28, 1928 in Scott County, VA and was a lifetime resident of the Midway community. He retired from Scott County Public Works after twenty years of service. He attended Midway Baptist Church, where he helped build the Sunday school rooms. He loved to farm and raise cattle.

In addition to his father, Robert L. Lark, two brothers, Willie "Bill" Lark, and Calvert "Cabo" Lark and his father and mother-in-law, Henry and Lotus Good Taylor preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Cleo Marie Taylor Lark; of the home, his son, Gary M. Lark and wife, Sherry, Kingsport, TN; granddaughters, Christy Bailey and husband, Chad, Kingsport, TN, Brandan Looney and husband, Joe, Surgoinsville, TN, and April Bishop and husband, Jeff, Gate City, VA; his mother, Rosa L. Culbertson (who is 104 years old), Gate City, VA; brothers, Shirrell Lark, Gate City, VA, and Ralph Lark and wife, Gertie, Gate City, VA; sisters, Helen Kinkead and husband, Lonnie "Junior", Monroe, MI, and Alma Hartsock and husband, Fred, Surgoinsville, TN; brothers-in-law, Joe Benton Taylor, Nickelsville, VA, Jack Taylor and wife, Shirley, Nickelsville, VA; sisters-in-law, Merrill Smith, Elizabethton, TN, Ruth Hillman and husband, Thomas, Nickelsville, VA, Debbie Gilmer and husband, Tommy, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Midway Baptist Church, Midway, VA and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. George Willis, Jr., Rev. Marvin Egan, and the Rev. Coy Butler officiating. A eulogy will be given by the Rev. Rick Willis. Ernie Addington, Blanche and Tammie Gillenwater and Steve Barber will provide the music.

Interment will follow the funeral service at the Taylor Family Cemetery in Taylor Town community. Chad Bailey, Joe Looney, Jeff Bishop, Scotty Perry, Danny Dockery, Bob Blanton, Gray Pierson and Kevin Davidson will serve as pallbearers. Edd "Bunny" Frazier, Clyde Gillenwater, Jeff McCarty, Gary Elliott, Roger Carter, Tommy Gillenwater and Dwight Lane will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff's of West Kingsport Dialysis Center and Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, with a special thank you to Hospice for their love and care of Mr. Lark.
