Edd Dockery – Church Hill, TN

Kenneth Edd Dockery, Church Hill, TN and formerly of Gate City, VA passed away, Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Edd was born in Scott County, VA on August 31, 1934, and was the son of the late William Worley and Ethel (Lovell) Dockery.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served two years in Japan.

He retired from the Kingsport Press.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Phyllis (Hawkins) Dockery, granddaughter, Kenzlei Hobbs, sons by marriage, Cecil “Eddie” and Robert Hawkins, sisters, Gertrude Rhoton, Ethel Rhoton, Lizzie Barnett, Mary Caudil, and Ruby Rhoton and brothers, Worley “Junior”, Thomas “T.M.”, Mack, and Earl Dockery preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Randy) Ball and Kim Hickman, grandchildren, Savannah (Matt) Lawson, Mekia Hickman, and Meisha Ball, great grandchildren, Kealy, Blaise, and Paislee Hobbs, Braiden, Brody, Bradlee, and Blake Lawson, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Perry Hawkins officiating. His granddaughter, Mekia Hickman will provide the music.

Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

Blaise Hobbs, Hunter Kelly, Kevin Hobbs, Stephen Dockery, Matt Lawson, and Braiden Lawson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Christian and Randy Ball.

Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m., at Gate City Funeral Home to go in procession to the graveside service.
