Jonathan "Jon" Russell Austin

Jonathan “Jon” Russell Austin, Blackwater, VA, 47, passed away June 19, 2026.

Jon was born in Kingsport, TN, on July 16, 1978, and was the son of the late George and Judy Austin.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda Austin; sons, Clayton Austin and Carter Austin; daughter, Claire Austin; as well as many cherished family members, friends, coworkers, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Jon’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband and a deeply involved father who loved his children wholeheartedly. Whether supporting their activities, celebrating accomplishments, or simply spending time together, Jon made his family the center of his life.

Jon and Linda’s love story began at Food Country USA, in Duffield, where they first met. What started as a chance encounter grew into a lasting marriage built on love, commitment, and friendship, that spanned 27 years.

An accomplished woodworker, Jon found satisfaction and peace in creating things with his hands. His craftsmanship reflected the patience, care, and attention he brought to every aspect of his life.

Though generally a quiet man, Jon possessed a steady presence that drew the respect of those around him. He did not speak often, but when he did, people listened. His words carried thoughtfulness, wisdom, and sincerity, leaving a lasting impression on family, friends, and coworkers alike.

Jon will be remembered for his love, kindness, strength of character, and unwavering devotion to his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 12-2p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Chuck Grimm and Jackie Frazier officiating. Andy Tate will provide the music.

Graveside services will follow at the Austin-Frazier Cemetery, Duffield VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
