Johnny Ray Flanary- Mt. Carmel, TN

Johnny Ray Flanary, 78, Mt. Carmel, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 16, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny was born in Wise, VA, on August 25, 1946, to the late Worley Flanary, and Melissa Flanary. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He faithfully served his country for almost 40 years.

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Beulah Pendleton (James), Shelby Roberson (George), and Nina Jennings (Bud); and sister-in-law, Nell Flanary preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his former wife, Linda Dixon Flanary; sons, Johnny Ray Flanary II, and Wesley Flanary (Rebecca); brother, Alfred Flanary; granddaughter, Hannah Street (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Clayton, Lakelynn, and Ensley; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home with Darin Harrison and Hal Calhoun officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the V A National Cemetery, Johnson City, TN. Family and friends are asked to meet at the V A Mountain Home National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

Matthew Street, Timothy Morrison, Jonathan Whitson, Ronnie Jarrett, Rodney Shelton, and Clayton Hall will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his caretaker Emily Robinette and the nurses of Amedisys Hospice for their love and care of Johnny.
