In Loving Memory
Jiles William Compton
October 6, 1954 – August 24, 2025
The family of Jiles William Compton is deeply saddened to announce his passing on August 24, 2025. Jiles entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering love, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Jiles proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was stationed in Sicily for a period of time. His years in the military reflected the same dedication, humility, and honor that he carried throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois Virginia Cress Dingus and Glynn Compton, as well as his siblings, A.L. Compton and Carol Honeycutt.
Jiles is survived by his children, Jenny McMurray (Roger) and Chase Compton (Jessica); his beloved grandchildren, Cody Hammonds, Colton McMurray, Walker McMurray, Sabrina Compton, Jake Compton, Leah Compton, Addy Compton, Harmony Compton, and Ember Compton; and his great-grandchildren, Eli Hammonds, Tenley Hammonds, and Teagan Hammonds; siblings, Jamie Hatchell (Buddy), Kathy Angle (Bob), Sherry Steffey (Emmitt), Jeanie Tate (Ron), Johnny Dingus (Susan), and several nieces and nephews.
Jiles was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than watching them grow, succeed, and become kind, caring individuals. He spoke often of their accomplishments, big and small, and held each of them close to his heart. His pride in them was boundless and evident in every conversation.
He found joy in life’s simple moments: the laughter of his grandchildren, family gatherings filled with warmth and a few hands of Rook, and sharing the rich stories of his family’s history with the next generation. Jiles had a way of making those around him feel rooted, connected, and loved.
He will be deeply missed, but the values he instilled and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His memory will forever be cherished, and his legacy honored.
