Steve Jennings – Gate City, VA

Steven Ryan Jennings, 69, Gate City, VA, went to his eternal home on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Steve was born in Sullivan County, TN, on September 13, 1950, and was the son of Imogene (Qualls) Jennings of Gate City, and the late Robert Joseph Jennings.

He was a graduate of Gate City High School, a veteran of the United State Army, and owner of Steve Jennings Construction.

Steve had a great love for the beauty of nature. He found solace working his land, hunting with his friends, especially those special trips with his brother Mike, visiting with his family, and spending time with his two daughters and six grandchildren, whom he cherished with all his heart. He built beautiful homes throughout the Tri-Cities, and he was noted for attention to detail and his quality work. Steve believed hard work and doing his best defined him. He always found time to talk with people because he was a “people person.” He never met a stranger. He loved the holidays, gathering with his large and loud family, sharing stories and laughter. He loved to talk politics and he respected others who had differing opinions. He had a great love for his country and for those who served. Anyone who knew Steve knew his compassion, empathy, and loyalty. He was truly “one of a kind.” Everyone who knew Steve had a richer life because of him.

In addition to his father, his brother, Timothy Jennings and sister, Muriel Sickmen preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Lisa L. LaForce, Gate City, VA; daughters, Morgan Jennings Snodgrass and husband, B.J., Gate City, VA and Laura Jane Ramsey and husband, Jimmie, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Kadence Jennings, Kyle Fields, Ryan Jennings, Gracelyn Ramsey, Hunter Ramsey, and John Conley Snodgrass; brother, Robert Michael Jennings and wife, Leona, Bristol, TN; sisters, Martha Vermillion and husband, Bill, Kingsport, TN, Mary J. Stout and husband, Terry, Augusta, GA, and Patti Jennings, Surgoinsville, TN; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

No formal services will be conducted at this time. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
