Jay Clinton Darnell – Gate City, VA

Jay Clinton Darnell, 91, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Jay was born on April 16, 1935, and was the son of the late George Washington and Elsie Darnell.

He was a longtime member of the Jehovah Witness of Gate City, VA.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Earnie (Rhoton) Darnell, sons, David Clinton Darnell, and Billy Ray Darnell, sister, Irene Dingus, brothers, Troy Darnell, Charles “Buck” Darnell and Bobby Darnell preceded him in death.

He retired from Bristol Motor Speedway.

Surviving is his daughter, Margaret Harvey, sons, Tim Darnell and wife, Tammy, Jeff Darnell, grandchildren, Jessica Darnell of the home, Jeffery Darnell, Jr. and wife, Makala, Crystal Tomlinson and husband, Josh, Christopher Austin and wife, Paige, Justin Darnell, and Kimberly Stapleton, great grandchildren, Taylor Tomlinson, Zachary Tomlinson, Hayley Darnell, Kaycie Darnell, and Dominic Chambers, daughters-in-law, Billie Jane Williams and Sue Darnell, sister, Georgie Carter, his fur babies, Poochie and Rosie, along with several nieces and nephews.

It was his wish to be cremated with no formal services to be conducted at this time.
