Jane Carter - Gate City, Virginia

 

Jane Carter, 89, of Gate City, Virginia, passed away on January 14, 2024, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was born in Kingsport, TN, and was the daughter of the late Ally J. & Lassie Herron. Jane was a woman of faith who loved her family and friends dearly. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found joy in spending time with them and creating lasting memories. Jane was passionate about reading, working crossword puzzles, shopping, and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, Virginia Tech, and UT.

Jane worked at Kingsport Press for 34 years, where she made a lasting impact. She was a dedicated employee.

Jane was a Gate City United Methodist Church member, where she found solace and strength in her faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William (Bill) Carter, her son, William Terry Carter, and her brother, Joe Herron.

Jane is survived by her son, Mickey Carter (Barbara), granddaughter Anna Carter Grice (Anthony), Grandson Will Carter (Madison), great-grandsons Carter and Luke Grice; and her brother Tommy Herron (Josephine), niece Whitney Flanary and several other nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Gate City Funeral Home on Sunday, January 21, from 2 to 3:30 pm with Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating, with a Eulogy by her son, Mickey Carter.

Graveside services will be on Monday, January 22, at 1pm at the Carter/Frazier/Stewart cemetery in the Daniel Boone Community.

Will Carter, Anthony Grice, Marty Hill, Barry Bellamy, Greg Davis will serve as pallbearers. John T. Carter, Don Frazier, Landon and Aiden Parker will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Gate City United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Jane Carter will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
