James Carson Ward, Jr.- Gate City, VA

James Carson Ward, Jr., 49, Gate City, VA, passed away, Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Holston Valley Medical Center. 

James was born in Sullivan County, TN, on January 9, 1975, to the late Carson Ward, and Annie Edwards Ward. 

In addition to his parents, his brother, Earl Ward; and niece, Santana Keith preceded him in death. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen Hartsock Ward; sons, Hagan Ward, and Braxton Fansler; sisters, Janice Hall, Connie Ward, Sharon Ward, and Anna Greene; special cousin, Billy Ward; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 11-1:00p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Larry Browder officiating. Tim and April Baldwin will provide the music. 

A remembrance will be provided from the Virginia Department of Forestry Western Region Fire Specialist, Russell Proctor, who lives in Scott County and has known and worked with James for his entire career of 25 years. A presentation will also be provided on behalf of Governor Glenn Youngkin, by Virginia Secretary of Forestry and Agriculture- Matt Lohr; and Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security- Terrance Cole. 

Graveside services will follow at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Virginia Department of Forestry Members and special friends, Bryan Jennings, Roger Carter, Randy Short, Russell Proctor, Justin Tompson, and Hammer Byrd will serve as pallbearers. 

The family would like to extend their special thanks to the Virginia Department of Forestry, and all medical staff for their love and care of James.
