James A. Sizemore- Ft. Blackmore, VA
James A. Sizemore, 75, Ft. Blackmore, VA, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
James was born May 25, 1950, and was the son of the late Echol and Jaunita (Lowe) Sizemore. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Worley and Alpha Lowe; his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Mary Ruth Lane, who jokingly gave him the name “Heavy”; and a special nephew Robert Sizemore.
James attended Red Hill Baptist Church. He previously worked at Nickel’s, in the meat department at Thriftway, and A & L Industry.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Rita Lane Sizemore; sister, Debbie (Doug) Ford, Blountville, TN; brother, Bobby Sizemore, Gate City, VA; sisters-in-law, Cathy Walker, Brenda (Terry) Gilliam, Patsy (Jim) Coley, Tammy (Johnny) Kimbler, Cathy (Jerry) Cropper; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Sandy) Lane, Jeff (Debbie) Lane, Randall (Connie) Lane; nieces, Christa (Aaron) Baskett, Pamela (Shane) Bowen, Briana Mullins, Cassidy Gilbert, Ashley Sizemore, Madilyn Baskett, Sophie Mae Sizemore, Mary Jo Gilliam, Madison (Caleb) Starnes, Allie Darnell, Ophelia Starnes, Hannah Gilliam, India Shepherd, and Jessica (Brandon) Hill; nephews, Samuel (Jordan) Gilliam, Roy Gilliam, Ryan (Natalie) Sizemore, Mason Baskett, Welsey Gilliam, Carter Gilliam, and Thomas Gilliam.
The family will receive friends from 11-1p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Vernon McDavid officiating. Johnny Kimbler, Madi Baskett, and Vernon and Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will follow at the Lane Family Cemetery in the Alley Valley Community. Johnny Kimbler, Samuel Gilliam, Jimmy Lane, Jeff Lane, Randall Lane, Ryan Sizemore, and Dalton Hensley will serve as pallbearers. Jim Coley, Terry Gilliam, Doug Ford, and Donnie Ford will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Gate City Funeral Home to aid in funeral expenses.
