Sam was born in Scott County, VA on June 20, 1946, and was the son of the late Henry Clifford Fletcher and Stella (Lane) Fletcher.

He spent his life working in construction, laying brick and as a farmer providing for his family.

Sam was saved many years ago and was a kind, loving, and tender-hearted man. He enjoyed watching Bob Smallwood and John Hagee, listening to beautiful gospel music, and loved the simple things in life such as good food, spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren whom he loved very much. He also treasured the time spent with the good neighbors he had over the years.

He was not only a good husband and father, but he was also our best friend who worried and watched after us. We will always love and miss him.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Jim Fletcher.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Nancy (Bishop) Fletcher, of the residence, daughters, Cynthia Leon, Gate City, VA, Vickey Elizabeth Fletcher, Duffield, VA, and Jennifer Peters, Gate City, VA, sons, James Clifford Fletcher, Jr., and Keith Fletcher, both of Duffield, VA, grandchildren, Brittany Diane Fletcher, Zachary Niel Winegar, Caleb Peters, Avery Peters, Katelyn Peters, great grandchildren, Parker Estepp, Gage Estepp, and Emberly Winegar, sisters, Lizzie Mae Johnson, Duffield, VA and Joyce Marie Johnson, Big Stone Gap, VA, brother, Larry Wayne Fletcher, Duffield, VA, along with several nieces and nephews.
