James E. Williams, 95, of Gate City, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2026. His passing was peaceful as he entered eternal life.
James was born in 1930 at his family home in Clinchport, Virginia, to Golda and Milo Williams. After leaving the family farm life, he joined the Marines in 1951 and was in the Reserves until 1959.
He was employed at Foote Mineral Company, Daniels Construction, and retired from Westmoreland Coal Company. Following retirement, he expressed a desire to go back to work and assisted in installing water lines in Scott County communities. He loved working outdoors and seemed to always have a lot of energy. He was committed to walking on the Greenbelt Monday through Friday, usually with his friends, Ralph and Jonathan. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. He had many friends throughout his life.
James was a member of the VFW and Clinchport Masonic Lodge.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Ann Fugate and Enlo Williams.
Many thanks are extended to Brookdale Kingsport Assisted Living and the Smokey Mountain Hospice Team for providing excellent care and support during his 2-year journey.
James requested there be no service.
