Herman “Ed” Reed – Gate City, VA

Herman “Ed” Edward Reed, 84, Gate City, VA passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, VA on August 10, 1939, and was the son of the late William Kyle and Ada Dell (McDavid) Reed.

Ed was the owner and operator of Reed’s Custom Cabinets and Home Builders, and a master Electrician and Plumber.

He attended Marble Point Community Church.

In addition to his parents, his grandson, Joshua Darnell, brothers, Denver and Kay Reed, and son-in-law, John Newton preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Irene (Gibson) Reed, children, Tony (Anna Mae) Reed, Freda (Rick) Darnell, Rick (Robin) Reed, and Cynthia “Cindy” Newton, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sister, Pat (Gerald) Tate, and brothers, Curtis, and Ronald Reed.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p., Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Minister Toby Reed officiating. Heavenly Reflections will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2023, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Mike Taylor, Michael Newton, Gerald Tate, Jeff Estepp, Micky Reed, and Travis Reed will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service.
