Herman Eugene Chapman

On Tuesday morning, June 23, Jesus wrapped His arms around Herman Chapman, 84, of Duffield, VA, and said “come home with me, my dear child”! His family was with him when Jesus entered the room and experienced the loving departure of Herman to Heaven!

Herman was born in Scott County, VA, on April 8, 1942, and was the son of the late Roy Chapman, and Ellen Carter Chapman.

Herman was a farmer all his life and enjoyed the outdoors, working crossword puzzles and putting large thousand-piece puzzles together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ellen Carter Chapman, sister Delores Long, niece Abigail Davis and nephew Stan David Peirce.

He is survived by his loving and supportive brother William “Will”, loving sisters, Donetta Peirce (Stan), Gwenda Smith (Houston), Sandra Davis (Brad), Brother in law Charles Long and loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and two great- great nieces. The family wishes to express thanks to the ER staff and the ICU staff at Holston Valley Hospital, for attentive, and loving care of Herman!

The family will receive friends from 6-7p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brad and Rev. Josh Davis officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Cox ‘s Chapel cemetery in Rye Cove, Virginia. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45p.m., for graveside service.
