Helen Louise Bowen – Speers Ferry, VA

Helen Louise Bowen, 87, Speers Ferry, VA passed away, Thursday, October `17, 2024 after an extended illness.

Born May 30, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Virgie (Manis) Miller.

Helen was a beacon of love and faith throughout her life. Together with her late husband, Cecil “Johnny” Bowen, they successfully ran Bowen’s Grocery on Robinette Valley Road for over six decades, creating a beloved community landmark.

Helen was known for her loving nature, compassionate spirit, and unwavering faith as a dedicated member of Horton’s Chapel Church. Her culinary skills were remarkable, often showcased through her cooking, canning, and baking. She was known for her sewing skills and ability to create beautiful quilts. 

Helen took great joy in being a grandmother, a role she cherished deeply.

In addition to her husband, and her parents, several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

She leaves behind her only son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, DeAnna, and grandsons, Brandon and Blake. She has one surviving brother, Johnny Miller, along with several nieces and nephews.

In her final months, she was loved by her caregivers, Vickie Leslie and Tammie Williams. Words can’t express the love and gratitude we have for them both.

Additionally , we would like to express our gratitude to Kelly Fry of Smokey Mountain Hospice.

Helen’s wishes were to have a Graveside service only, at 3:oo p.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, with no visitation or funeral service.
