Sue Lawson – Ft. Blackmore, VA

Hazel Sue Lawson, 79, Ft. Blackmore, VA went to be with her Lord, Monday, August 31, 2026, Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sue was born in Ft. Blackmore, VA on September 22, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Bartley M. and Rosa Lee (Darnell) Salling.

In addition to her parents, her son, Robert James Lawson, and sisters, Lois Reed, Pearl Harper, Kate Rhoton, and Ann Jessee preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband of 61 years, James E. “Babe” Lawson, Jr., sisters, Trudy Williams, and Jane Smith and husband, Jim, who was very special to her ,brothers, Phillip Salling and wife, Jeanett, Fred Salling and wife , Shirley, Jeff Salling, and Brian Salling and wife, Kathy, special friend, Laura Lee Pence, her fur baby, Blackie, along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Evan Clark officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the Lawson Cemetery. Ft. Blackmore, VA. Greg Lawson, Anthony Lawson, Gary Hass, Mike Lawson, Phil Salling, Billy Wayne Rhoton, and Steve Grizzle will serve as pallbearers. Jim Smith, Otis Lawson, Jeff Neal, Fred Salling, Bud Salling, and Mike Davis will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
