Harry L. Akers, Sr.

Harry L. Akers, Sr., 91, of Gate City, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at NOVA Health & Rehab in Weber City, Virginia.

Harry was born on January 27, 1935, in Clinchport, Virginia to the late Howard W. Akers and Gertrude (Lane) Akers.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris (Tipton) Akers, and his daughters, Jennifer Dean and Pamela Kim Akers.

Harry enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved hunting and fishing, spending time riding his side-by-side, and relaxing in his rocking chair on the porch. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Harry L. Akers, Jr. (Virginia); his brother, William Akers; his grandchildren, Harry L. Akers III and Shawn Akers (Jennifer); his great-grandchildren, Bailey Akers, Benjamin Akers, and Brayden Akers; along with several nieces and nephews; longtime family friends, Ron Stewart and Sherry King; and his faithful companion, his fur baby, Sam.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Carter Cemetery in the Copper Ridge (Manville) community. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:00 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
