Raymond was born in Scott County, VA on July 16, 1944 and was the son of the late William Elbert and Ida Mellie (Lowe) Hammonds.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Linda Faye (McDavid) Hammonds; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Maggie McDavid; sister, Evelyn Lee; brothers, James Hammonds, Ellis Hammonds, and Kyle Hammonds; brother-in-law, Joe Stewart preceded him in death.
Surviving are his daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Payne and husband, Kevin, Johnson City, TN; son, Gregory S. Hammonds and wife, Darling, Nickelsville, VA; precious granddaughter, Lilli; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Hammonds and wife, Linda, Red Lion, PA; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Stewart, Gate City, VA, Ann Hammonds, Gate City, VA, Pauline Hammonds, Church Hill, TN, and Lorine Hammond, York, PA; brother-in-law, William McDavid and wife, Lisa, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews. Special friends and neighbors, Bill and Pam Peters.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Buford Blankenbeckler officiating.
