Olena Spears Hammond, 90, entered into rest Friday, January 25, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Hammond was born in Scott County, VA on July 18, 1917, a daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Jane Williams Spears.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Lawton Fay Hammond, an infant daughter, Joan Lynn Hammond, grandson, Eric L. Hammond, sisters, Beulah Hammonds and Glenna Quillin and three brothers, Kelly A. Spears, Milligan Spears and an infant brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Taylor and husband, Eddie, Kingsport, TN, son, Freddie L. Hammond and wife, Carolina, Kingsport, TN, grandson, Troy L. Hammond, Alexandria, VA, brothers, Jim Spears and wife, Betty, Gate City, VA, and Rant Spears, Kingsport, TN, special nephew, M.C. (Mel) Hammonds, Kingsport, TN, step grandson, Jeff Taylor and wife, Shannon, Kingsport, TN, step great grandchildren, Kirsten and Bryce Taylor, Kingsport, TN along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the Rev. Bob Lane and Eulogized by her nephew, Doc McConnell.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
