Gary Wayne McCracken- Gate City, VA

Gary Wayne McCracken, 64, Gate City, VA, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Gary was born on October 21, 1961, in Nickelsville, VA, and was the son of the late Paul McCracken and Bertie (Lane) McCracken.

In addition to his parents, his former wives, Terri Smith and Melissa McCracken; and brother, Billy McCracken preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Hailey McCracken; son, Anthony McCracken; sisters, Janie Frye, Jaunita McCracken, and Freida Estep; brother, Johnny McCracken; fur buddies, Mickey “Michelob”, Beagle Butt, and Diesel; nieces and nephews, Courtney Daugherty (Chris), Rickie Frye (Carly), Taylor Berry (Adam “Grill Master”), Eric Frye, John- John Smith, and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2026, in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00a.m., Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Horton Cemetery, Fort Blackmore, VA, with Johnny Smith officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.

Eric Frye, Brandon Hill, Adam Berry, Carson Parker, Hailey McCracken, Jr Berry, Chris Daugherty, and John- John Smith will serve as pallbearers. Gavin Berry and Braxton Berry will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to aid in funeral expenses.
