Garvey Odell Wallen – Kingsport, TN

Garvey Odell Wallen, 78, Kingsport, TN, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Garvey was born on September 3, 1944, in Clinchport, VA, to the late Hiram Wallen and Ethel (Roberts) Wallen.

Garvey was a Veteran of the United States Army serving as a Specialist 4. He also retired as a Sr. Forman for the Eastman Chemical Company.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Patricia Wallen; daughter, Cindy Wallen; son, Christopher Wallen; and sisters, Rose Helen Dishner and Sandra Berry preceded him in death.  

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Brown (David), Johnson City, TN; sons, Gregory Barker (Sherie), Gray, TN, Jeffrey Wallen (Wendy), Gray, TN; sister, Lois Smith, Kingsport, TN; brother, Thomas Wallen (Kelly Sue), Church Hill, TN; grandchildren, Andrew Brown, Aaron Barker; special friends, Ruth Monroe, Loretta Lemons, Ellen Booker; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. David Brown officiating. Sharon Mason will provide the music.

Military graveside services will be held at 11:00a.m., on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN, Post #265, Gate City, VA, National Guard Honors Team.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.

Aaron Barker, Randy Mason, Noah Mason, and Andrew Brown will serve as pallbearers.
