George "Dewey" Flanary, 82, entered into rest Friday, June 6, 2008 at his residence.





He was born February 28, 1926 in Scott County, VA.





Mr. Flanary was a lifelong resident of Scott County, VA and served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dungannon, VA and also Pine Grove Baptist Church.





He was the son of the late William and Pearlie Frazier Flanary. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bill Head; sister, Mary B. Hawfield; niece, Norine Debruyne; nephew, David Hawfield; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.





He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Opal Kimbler Flanary, of the home; daughter, Glenda Head, Gate City, VA; granddaughters, Kathy Head and Christy Head, Gate City, VA; sisters-in-law, Lillian Kimbler, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Janie Kimbler, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Ruby Sanders, Kingsport, TN; brothers-in-law, Emmett Kimbler, Kingsport, TN and Arnold Kimbler, Ft. Blackmore, VA; many nephews and nieces; one special nephew, Paul Sanders, and a host of good friends.





The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the daughter's residence. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. by the Fincastle Lodge #33. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating. Music will be provided by the Charlie Taylor family.





Military graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with the American Legion Hammond Post #265 and Gate City Post #3, assisted by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.





The family will meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.





Pallbearers will be Sammy Cruby, Lawton Stallard, Johnny Stallard, Paul Sanders, Elmer Starnes and Richard Harris.





Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Head, Arnold Kimbler, Emmett Kimbler, Larry Cruby, Bill Salling, James Lawson and Larry Beard.
