Gate City, VA — Doris Rachel McDavid Falin, 81, Nottingham Community, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Lonesome Pine Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born on November 29, 1926 in Scott County, VA to the late John Ingle and Leona McDavid.
She was preceded in death by a precious son, Glenn Falin; sisters, Elsie Herron and Mary Sue Kilbourne; three brothers, John L. McDavid and C.A. McDavid and Lewis L. McDavid and one half brother, Ira McDavid.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a wonderful friend to all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Claude C. Falin, Gate City, VA; a daughter and son- in- law, Teresa Stephenson and husband, Craig, Weber City, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Falin and wife, Midge, Gate City, VA; one brother, Warren "Shawn" McDavid, Big Stone Gap, VA; two granddaughters, Cindy Francisco and husband, Matthew and Rachel Olinger and fianc?, Danny Beasley; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Atticus Francisco, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her daughter. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor J.W. Depew and Eckel Herron officiating. Music will be provided by Gerald Compton.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Kenneth Herron, Kevin Herron, Michael Baker, Greg Baker, Scotty Kilbourne, Dr. Ladley will serve as pallbearers.
Joe Stewart, Eugene Kilbourne, Don Wright, Matthew Francisco, Danny Beasley, Mescal Baker, Mack Baker and Lloyd Porter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Gate City Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Falin family.
