Emmitt Mason Shoemaker, 86, Gate City, VA, passed away Monday, May 4, 2026, at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Emmitt was born on March 10, 1940, in Scott County, VA and was the son of the late Roy Shoemaker and Osa (Clark) Shoemaker.

In addition to his parents, his daughter, Mary Jane Shoemaker; and brothers, Bobby Shoemaker and Curtis Shoemaker preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sally Austin, Judy Short, Peggy Mathney, and Kathleen Mellons; son, Sam Blausey (Melissa); sisters, Evelyn Dean, Francace Simmons, Patty, and Marie Harlan; brother, Eugene Shoemaker; grandchildren, Cassie Fales, Summer Cleek, Christian Cleek, Shawn Mellons, Austin Mellons, Izzy Mellons, Bridget and Bailey Blausey, Mason Blausey, Rose Mathney, Pam Franklin Mathney; best friend, Tommy Stansberry; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Emmitt’s wishes were to be cremated; no formal services will be conducted at this time.
