Diana Faye Blair
2nd Timothy 4:7 ~ I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.
Diana Faye Blair, 76, passed away on September 20, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She returns to God, the Creator of all and to Jesus Christ, her Savior and Redeemer.
Diana was born on February 24, 1947, and was the daughter of Earl S. and Lola Inez (Davidson) Blair, growing up in the Midway community of Scott County, VA. She graduated from Gate City High School in 1965, and from the University of Tennessee School of Nursing in 1968, receiving her B.S Degree in Education in 1982.
Diana pursued a lifelong calling in the nursing profession. She held various nursing roles in her 50-year career, serving as a mentor and leader in the profession. Her early nursing centered on caring for infants at UT’s Neonatal Unit, a true passion.
She served as a preceptor for new nurses and held other administrative and management roles in healthcare. Diana retired from Wellmont Health System, now Ballad Health, in 2016.
Diana will be greatly missed and will be remembered as a woman who deeply loved her family. She delighted in being “Aunt Fluffy” to her five nieces and “Grand Di” to her six great nieces and nephews.
Diana loved sports, and especially loved cheering on the University of Tennessee Volunteers. She loved playing board games with her great nieces and nephews, and spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and interested in many things, always striving to be informed and to learn. She enjoyed time on her front porch with a good book and her flowers.
She was an active member of Weber City First Baptist Church where she was involved in the children’s nursery and ministry, also attending Bible Study Fellowship for several years.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Earl S and Lola Inez Blair.
She is survived by her sister, Teresa Blair Varney (Doug), brother, Larry W. Blair (Cindy), nieces, Lauren Plunk (Jared), Leandra Mitchell (Rob), Erin Blair, Olivia Blair, and Emilie Robinette, her great nieces and nephews include Lola, Quillin, Ella Plunk, Graham Mitchell, as well as Harper and James Robinette.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Weber City First Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Smith, and Rev. Lester Morelock officiating. A eulogy will be given by Doug Varney.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Cancer Center, and W-3 at Ballad Wellmont Holston Valley for their professional, unfailing, compassionate care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weber City First Baptist Church, 155 Shady Elm Lane, Weber City, VA 24290 in the name of Diana Faye Blair.
