Daniel Sam “Sammy” Brickey Jr. – Dungannon, VA
Daniel Sam “Sammy” Brickey Jr., 66, of Dungannon, Virginia, went to his eternal resting place with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. He was born February 17, 1960, in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Danny and Shirley Brickey.
Sammy loved life and lived it with skill, joy, and generosity. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or make better—whether it was a stubborn engine, a broken piece of equipment, or a friend in need. A masterful engine builder, he earned distinction as a national champion go-kart racer and became well known for his talents as a drag racer. He was also an accomplished American Saddlebred showman. In his free time, he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working the land he loved.
Family and friendship meant everything to Sammy. His love extended far beyond blood, and his life was filled with treasured friendships. He was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend. He left the world a little better than he found it, and his generous spirit will live on through all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 48 years, Angie Brickey; daughters, Candace Brickey and Samantha Jones; son-in-law, James Jones, who was like a son and one of his dearest friends; grandchildren, Aleara and Keegan Jones; niece, Kerstie Hillman; aunt, Sue Peters; uncle, Bob Brickey; special cousin, Perry Quillen and wife Gena; Teresa and Bill Culbertson; Carol Ann and Boog Campbell; Frank and Gina Joe Wohlford; along with many other loving family members and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Fincastle Cemetery in Dungannon, Virginia with Todd Cassell and Larry Beavers officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at any time after graveside services on Sunday, at the home of Angela and Sammy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who have supported them during this difficult time. Angie’s and the girls’ devoted circle of family and friends who stood with them; neighbors, fellow racers, horse and farm friends, and community members who shared stories, meals, and time, those who called, visited, sent flowers, cards, messages, and offered practical help, your kindness has been a great comfort. The medical professionals who provided care and compassion, along with everyone who shared memories, photographs, or helped in small, loving ways that made a large difference
