Loretta Jewell (Blankenbeckler) Damon
Loretta Jewell (Blankenbeckler) Damon, 78, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, December 7, 2020, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.
Born in Scott County, VA on January 21, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Annis Blankenbeckler.
Loretta graduated from Gate City High School in 1960. She met and married her husband, Bruce Damon, in Washington, DC in 1962, while working at the C&P Telephone Company. They raised two daughters in Northern Virginia, before she retired from the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1997.
In 1991, she and Bruce purchased the farmhouse property in Gate City where she grew up. There, they built a new home together, where she lived until her death. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved animals and enjoyed her many pets over the years.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Damon; son-in-law, John Hardin; and sister, Helen McConnell.
Loretta is survived by her two daughters Pamela Hardin, Herndon, VA and Kimberly Perry, and husband James, Centreville, VA; four wonderful grandchildren, Ashley Hardin, Herndon, VA; Kyle Perry, and wife Mary Joyce, Atlanta, GA; Shane Perry, Centreville, VA; and Katelyn Perry, Centreville, VA; her sister Lois McConnell, Mineral, VA; along with many nieces and nephews.
At her request, her remains will be cremated and interred at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
The Damon family would like to thank all of the family, friends, doctors, and caregivers who blessed Loretta with love, encouragement, and kindness, especially in her last few months.
