Cody Austin Shayne Hammond

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cody Austin Shayne Hammond on September 4, 2025, after an extensive illness. He was 30 years old.
Cody was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend. Born on January 6, 1995, he touched many lives with his strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family.
He is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Lauren Hammond; his parents, Roger and Jenny McMurray; his mother, Susan Hammond (Endi); and his father, John R. Hammond. He is also survived by his grandparents, John and Emma Hammond; his brothers, Colton and Walker McMurray; his sister, Cassie Gosnell (Jimmy); his niece, Sophie Gosnell; and his nephews, Jonah and Bennett McCarty. Most of all, he leaves behind his three cherished children: Eli Hammond, Tenley Hammond, and Teegan Hammond.
Cody’s greatest pride and joy were his children, and his love for them was evident in everything he did. He was a devoted, hands-on dad, and his kids were the very center of his world.
Cody proudly served as a volunteer fireman for the Nickelsville Volunteer Fire Department. He loved outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, or simply being in nature. His adventurous spirit and deep connection to the people he loved will be remembered always.
A graveside service to honor Cody’s life will be conducted on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens, located at 208 Lane St, Church Hill, TN 37642. A processional will depart from Gate City Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to join the processional or meet directly at the cemetery. Officiant Rex McMurray will lead the service.
Pallbearers will be Colton McMurray, Walker McMurray, James McGinnis, Brock Williams, Phillip Justice, Michael Dorton, Tony Anderson, and Michael Jennings.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Heritage Baptist Church Hiltons Va from 12-5pm.
Cody’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
