Chris Starnes – Gate City, VA

Christopher Scott Starnes, 54, Gate City, VA passed away, Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Chris was born in Kingsport, TN on February 26, 1970, and was the son of the late Sonja Kern-Nixon and Bobby Joe Starnes.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, and later was a lieutenant with the Pasco County Sheriff's Department in Florida. Chris had just recently received his PhD in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University. 

He is survived by his daughter, Savannah Starnes, St. Pete, FL, son, Jakob Starnes, St. Pete, FL, his daughters Tessa and Jessie Starnes and his son JJ Starnes from Zephyrhills Fl,  brother Shawn Starnes and wife, Nikki Starnes, Kingsport, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 8th at 7:00 pm in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Rodney Fields officiating.

Military graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 9th at 10am at the V. A. Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN conducted by The American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team and Pastor Johnny Byrd officiating.
