Charles Preston White, Jr.- Nickelsville, VA

Charles Preston White, Jr., 92, Nickelsville, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Wellmont Madison House (Assisted Living), Kingsport, TN.

Charles Preston White, Jr., was born in Scott County, VA, on May 26, 1931, and was the son of the late Charles Preston (C.P., Sr.) and Dora Lee (Taylor) White. He loved his family dearly and was a hard-working farmer and loved working with horses and mules and trading. He was also a retiree of VDOT.

Charles was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and served our country during the Korean Conflict as a Pfc from 1951- 1953 and was also a Purple Heart recipient.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Lola Dell Meade White (2013); sisters, Hannah Kate White, Cansada Long, and Maxie Broadwater; brothers, Arthur L. White, and Edward L. White; sisters-in-law, Lucy White, and Pauline White; brothers-in-law, Joe Broadwater and Fred Long preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Teresa Wallen (Carl) Gate City, VA; sons, Wade White (Linda), Gate City, VA, Preston White (Dee), Nickelsville, VA, and Wendell White (Amy), Gate City, VA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Scott Fields officiating; Preston and Lee White will provide a eulogy. Chris Holder will provide the music.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 10:00a.m., Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Services will be conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN, Post 3265, Gate City, VA, National Guard Honors Team. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15a.m., Monday, to go in procession to the graveside service.

Barry Compton, Derek Owens, Gary Salyer, Lee White, Chase White, and Braydon Daugherty will serve as pallbearers. Drew Wallen, Jarvis Vicars, Larry Joe Price, and Jimmy Sargent will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Cassel and his staff; doctors and staff at VA Mountain Home; and the wonderful and caring staff at Wellmont Madison House (Assisted Living) for the special care given to our dad, Charles Preston White, Jr.
