Mildred E. Chapman, 72, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, August 20, 2007 at her residence.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Putnam County, TN to the late William Hershell and Sarah Alice Dishman Perry.
She served as Lt. Commissioner of the Revenue for Scott County, VA for twenty-eight years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gate City, VA.
Mildred was devoted to her family and church. She also was an avid bridge player and yard seller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Edith Waller and a brother, Johnny Paul Perry.
Surviving is her husband of fifty-two years, Richard Chapman, Gate City, VA, daughter, Sherri McClain, Gate City, VA, sons, Richard Chapman, Jr., Gate City, VA and Travis Chapman, Hiltons, VA, grandchildren, Sarah McClain, Alex McClain, Travis J. Chapman, Seth Chapman, Lynly Jones, Zachary Chapman and Luke Chapman, brother, Bob Perry and wife, Frances, Gate City, VA along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 24, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with a eulogy given by Wanda Bledsoe. Dennis Fritz will provide the music. Friends are invited to speak or sing as desired.
Graveside services will be conducted by Jeff DeBoard at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends will be meeting at the cemetery for the graveside service.
