Emmit Gray Cassell ? Gate City, VA Mr. Emmit Gray Cassell, 86, Gate City, VA entered into rest Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Brian Center in Weber City, VA. Mr. Cassell was born in Scott County, VA on October 24, 1921, the son of the late Bert and Lizzie Maude Gray Cassell. He was a WWII veteran of the 1st Armored Division serving in the European Theatre. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gate City, VA and was retired from the Eastman Kodak Company. Emmit loved farming, attending the Carter Fold and watching and listening to the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball games. Surviving are his wife, Edith Pauline Wood Cassell, Gate City, VA, sons, Walter Cassell and wife, Lynn, Weber City, VA and Benny Cassell and wife, Diane, Gate City, VA, grandchildren, Mia Fields and husband, Michael, Weber City, VA, Lindsay Roberts and husband, Aaron, Gate City, VA and Jessica Cassell, Knoxville, TN, great granddaughter, Sydney Fields, Weber City, VA, sisters, Mae Wood and husband, Stewart, Bristol, VA, sisters-in-law, Lou Jane Gilmer, Gate City, VA and Grace Wood, Kingsport, TN along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Chapo and the Rev. Don Muncie officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the America Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Donald Wood, Walter Dean, Charlie Bill Gray, Harold Dean, Claude Wood, Buster Dean, Sonny Gray and Troy Glenn will serve as pallbearers. The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008 to go in procession to the graveside service. The Cassell family wishes to thank the staff of the Brian Center and Dr. James Wolfe for their care and compassion during Emmit's illness.
