James Frank Carter, 82, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Carter was born in Scott County, VA on November 27, 1925, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Carter and Clara Ella Hill Carter. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Quebecor Printing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Georgia Taylor, Nannie Culbertson, and Mary Etta Bevins.

Surviving is his wife, Beverly Jolene Carter, Ft. Blackmore, VA, daughter, Linda Carter Lee and fianc?, Michael Quiggle, Kingsport, TN, sons, James Larry Carter and wife, Loretta, Kingsport, TN, and Tim Alan Carter and wife, Debra, Jonesborough, TN, four grandsons, Trevin Quillin, Dustin Carter, Bryan Carter, and Benjamin Carter, two great grandchildren, Tristan Quillin and Priscilla Quillin, and four step grandchildren along with several nieces and a nephew.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2008 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Street officiating.

Burial will follow the service at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport and #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Dustin Carter, Michael Quiggle, Gene Frye, Keith Rhoton, Mathew Adams and Charles Kern will serve as pallbearers. Trevin Quillin, Bryan Carter, Tristan Quillin, Rick Stewart and Benjamin Carter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
