Carolyn Sue Kern – Duffield, VA

Carolyn Sue Kern, 75, Duffield, VA passed away, Friday, January 20, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was an avid softball fan. She played softball in her younger years and enjoyed watching it on TV later in life. Although family was very important, her heart and home were always open to everyone.

Carolyn was born in Exeter, VA on October 29, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Lois Hall and John Henry McDavid.

In addition to her parents, her daughter Kathy Regina Wallen; and brothers Jimmy, Donald, Tommy, and Greg McDavid preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Eugene Kern; daughter, Mona (William “Mike”) Bowen; son-in-law, Keith (Paula) Wallen; grandchildren, Brittney(Seth)  Rhoton, Breanna (Jalen) Hammonds, Adam Bowen, and Molly Bowen; great-grandchildren, Kolbie Rhoton, and Declan Rhoton; sister, Patsy Kern (Kenny); special sister-in-law, Tina Kern; special friend, Linda Dockery and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4p.m., Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor David Kern and Pastor Ray Dockery officiating. Chris Holder and Mike Bowen will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m, Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the McNew Cemetery, Stanleytown, VA.

Adam Bowen, Dwayne Kern, Dawson Kern, Gino Kern, Jon Kern and Brian McDavid will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00p.m., for the graveside service.
