Carolyn Beatrice Hartsock – Gate City, VA

Carolyn “Karen” Beatrice Hartsock, 57, Gate City, VA passed away Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born on September 18, 1967, in Sparta, NC, she was the daughter of the late Claude Willie and Rachel Loretta (Bobbitt) Hartsock.

Karen received several medals of heroism for her bravery in saving her siblings from a house fire in 1982. She never let her circumstances get the better of her. She was a tough but tender “cookie”, who dearly loved her family.

In addition to her parents, her husband, James Carson Ward, Jr preceded her in death.

Karen is survived by her daughter and best friend, Rachel Ward; sons, Johnny Ward, Billy Ward; sisters and best friends, Norma Hartsock Powers and Roger, Ree Baldwin; brothers, Cotton Hartsock and Pam, David Hartsock, and Kevin Flanary and Becky Nickels, grandchildren, Hagan Ward, Ezriella Ward, Daylynn Ward, Amora Ward, Kendra Ward, and Amanda Ward; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Gary Adkins officiating. Leah and Christina will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends, Roger Powers, Roger McMurray, Mark Hartsock, Justin Hartsock, Tyler Graham and Jonathan Frazier will serve as pallbearers. Aiden Hartsock will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2025, to go in procession to the graveside service.
